All this jazz about tea and health and antioxidants is too complicated. I doubt that imitating this or that aspect of Chinese life will make us better people, nor will it change the society which produces the tempting poisons savvier folks are trying to quit. If being "healthy" means regulating my diet like women trying to conceive chart their cycles by the moon, I want no part of it. I'm not Martha Stewart or a homesteading grandmother, I can't remember all these goddamn recipes and nutrition facts and the "suggested health benefits" of 100 different kinds of tea and tuber. Besides, all that is no doubt overrated. It's so very easy to claim your product will prevent some kind of cancer or "revitalize" you. Rooibos tea is supposed to alleviate headache; yerba (Ilex paraguariensis) is supposed to keep you awake. Well, hey, maybe that's so, but if I want to get rid of my headache I'll take a bloody aspirin, and if I want to stay awake I'll have coffee. The fact is, these are local products being pawned off on the American consumer as vitally important discoveries in alimentary medicine, or however they spin it. Go to Uruguay and you'll see everyone, almost literally, sipping away at their yerba mate; go to South Africa and you'll see folks having rooibos. The question is: Do we really need any of this? Hypercapitalism leads to hyperglut of local products from everywhere in the world; if you were to spend your time studying, and all your money buying this stuff, you'd sacrifice in lived time what you only believe you're stocking up in future time. For it isn't a question of immediate relief of certain ailments; only very powerful stimulants and the like are good for that. (Unfortunately, most of those are illegal here and in most of the Western world.) I would expect someone suffering from headache to drink only rooibos tea, unless it were absolutely certain to promptly and effectively neutralize headache, as do aspirin and acetaminophen (in most cases). Any doctor proposing the same would be a witch doctor. So if it ain't good for immediate relief, and your doctor wouldn't prescribe it over the usual chemical remedy, why should we believe their claims at all? The "world product" industry is huge and, compared to other industries, quite harmless (it doesn't even ream those in the lesser earning bracket, usually, because they don't know or care about the rarefied tastes of the "healthy"); but just the same it relies on a marketing strategy designed to play on the chronic consumer's addled worldview — through falsehood, gullibility, and the fetish for "authenticity — to clear its warehouses.

Beer, water and coffee, thank you.

Jog about 10 minutes beforehand and then stretch before playing. This should help a little.

jog ten stretch then work out. Stretch after then every once in a while throughout the day if you start to feel stiff. I just did all this on an I phone while pooping

Been searching the net for ages...I recently bought my first dri-fit Nike top..I NEVER smell of Body Odour..I was thinking is it because Istarted a new sport (Capoeira) that makes me sweat..I was mortified...being a female who prides herself on bathing every night..fresh clothes every day if poss...
I was hand washing my top, letting it soak for a couple of hours then drip dry...it smelt good, but then I would get terrible offensive body odour..
Thanks for the site!!

Thanks, Tigermomma, I'll try your recipe . I recently ordered Penguin Sportwash through Amazon.com, and I'm hoping that will be helpful as well. On most shirts just a spray of white vinegar works great, but it's not working on my Under Armor items.

Stretch or don't stretch. It really depends on what feels good for you. The jury is out as to whether stretching is useful or not. I think you have to figure out for yourself. Some people find that stretching before a run helps. I never have and I don't stretch much at all. It hasn't seemed to hurt me too much.

Don't ever stretch before you run. You don't stretch a cold muscle because you will injure yourself. Only stretch after a run or after 10 minutes of running when your muscles are warmed up.

As the mother of a field hockey goalkeeper.... I know about oders and, I am happy to tell you , the removal of same. The synthetics, not just UA, have the same problem. To your laundry add 1/2 cup of laundry baking soda, 1 cup white vinegar (not white wine or apple cider type) and 1 cup household ammonia.
Also, remember everyone's skin has a little different chemical balance and bacteria.... if oders are a consistant problem, you may want to consider occasionally using a stronger antibacterial cleanser such as Hibiclens, available from the drug store, in your shower.

Hey Steve, Good to hear from you. Yes, that is me in the joggler video. It was taken at the 2004 Chicago Marathon (around mile 21). I have about 2 or 3 drops during a marathon although I have made it the whole way without a drop.

In February, I'll be running my 22nd marathon.

Dan,
The fact that water should be boiling is true for most teas like black and white tea, but when making green tea it is recommended that the water be around 90 degrees Farenheit. Green tea can produce a very bitter taste if it is brewed too hot. I learned this from a tea vender in Chicago this year. Suddenly my green tea is tasting better and I enjoy it much more than I used to. I was also told that white tea has the most anti-oxidants in it. Anyone know if that is true?

Katie, sometimes the words transcend their specific meaning. Technically, Peanut M&M's are not candy bars but they exist next to all regular candy bars and when it comes right down to it, each of the pieces could itself be a candy bar.

I mean technically, peanuts are not nuts even though they have the word 'nuts' in their name. They are actually legumes. But when a mistake in English is made for such a long time it becomes correct. Therefore, Peanut M&M's are candy bars.

And I suppose this means you don't think Pluto is a planet either.

As far as taste goes, Snickers wins out for me. But taking other factors into account, I generall get the 100 Grand bar or the Take 5 bar. The Snickers Marathon bar pales in comparison to the real thing.

Yeah man...donuts...love em! Not quite as much as the Peanut M&Ms but still they are up there up my post-marathon, junk-food binge list. Living in Boston makes totally giving up donuts difficult: around every corner is a Dunkin Donuts. Still, I have cut back over the years and I will admit that after LaSalle Bank Chicago 2006 I had not a single donut.

Back to the candy bars: snickers comes in at #3 in my top 10 but it is the first choice after a solid long run. I will even choose it over it's "healthy" cousin, the Snickers Marathon bar.

Thank you! I have been trying to convince my closest friends that yes, in fact, Peanut M&Ms belong in the category of candy bars. It hits #1 on my list. I love em. We also share a number of others in our top 10s. One recommendation: mix Peanut M&Ms into popcorn. It is the best movie treat ever. At home, right when it comes out of the microwave, add in the M&Ms. They will melt just a little.

Best of luck with the joggling.

That's pretty funny. Almost exclusively, for the past 15 years or so, I ate two meals a day. I then went to three meals, including sugar powdered donuts in the morning. I don't eat the donuts anymore. I do eat five times a day. It seems to work for me....
